We arrived in Quito on a cold Friday afternoon. We did not realized it was over 2000m! Luckily we brought with us our jeans and big sweaters.
Quito is a lovely colonial city (at least the downtown area). It is far less expensive than in Panama or any other country we visited so far and paradoxally we feel much safer.
(They also have great empanadas!)
Then we took a bus to Banos (less confortable than our Cherokee and we cannot go tho the bathrooms whenever we want). Big village (or small city), quite tourist and a weekend destination for Ecuadorians. This city is known for its thermal baths (that we did not try yet) but there are also many paths to bike and waterfall to admire.
Unfortynatly the weather is still a bit cold and it is raining some now and then...
But not as much as the southern part of Ecuador...
Indeed, Guayaquil is completly flooded, the major roads are closed... it is a big mess ! Maybe we should have sent our car to Peru instead ! We keep our fingers crossed hoping it won't make our quest (getting our car back) more difficult than it already appears.
